What are Piles?

Also known as haemorrhoids, piles are swollen blood vessels in the anus and lower rectum. Piles can develop either inside the rectum or around the anus. In the early stages, piles present as passing fresh blood during bowel movement. Piles can present as an uncomfortable lump at the anus at later stage of the disease. Piles can sometime present as a very painful lump around the anus. As piles are essentially blood vessels, they will not develop into cancer.
